Koetsu Audio
A Legacy of Artistic Excellence: Koetsu is named after Honami Koetsu, a renowned Japanese artist, reflecting the company’s commitment to combining artistic craftsmanship with technological innovation. Founded by Yoshiaki Sugano, a multifaceted personality who was a boxer, artist, sword maker, and automotive executive, Koetsu revolutionized the phono cartridge industry. Sugano’s profound love for Western classical music drove him to enhance the musicality of phono cartridges using unique materials like 6N copper and rare platinum iron magnets.
Craftsmanship Passed Through Generations: Today, Koetsu is known globally for its exquisite cartridges that blend high-purity technical materials with natural beauty, making them highly coveted among audiophiles. Continuing Sugano’s vision, his son Fumihiko, a master cartridge maker who apprenticed under his father, ensures that each Koetsu cartridge is handcrafted in Japan with meticulous care. The limited nature of these hand-made pieces adds to their exclusivity and appeal, maintaining Koetsu’s reputation as a pioneer in audio excellence.
